#0026: External Hard Drives

You buy a computer.  You make sure it comes with as much hard drive memory as you think you will possibly need.

You take it home.  You start typing up documents, downloading music, saving video files, adding on various programs, virus blockers, camera pictures, DVD movies… and so on, and so on…

And, after about 6 months, that hard drive memory that was supposed to be as much as you thought you would need… is thisclose to being maxed out.

What is one to do? Do they buy another computer? Ask a friend to load all YOUR new files on THEIR computer’s hard drive?

The answer is actually much simpler: you go out and buy another hard drive – an EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE.

They’re a GREAT invention, and one that can really come in handy.  Because they are external, you don’t have to worry about dismantling your computer to install it in – all you need is a USB cord and you’re good to go!

They are usually small or reasonably sized (anywhere from key chain size to the size of a small book), meaning you can take them anywhere with you.  This is great if you have a laptop and are constantly needing to take it someplace.  If it doesn’t have a lot of memory space, your external hard drive should fit right along side it.

Best of all, you can get these external drives in all types of memory sizes, from 8 gigabytes to 4 or 5 terabytes (i.e. 4,000 to 5,000 GB).  You can also buy as many of them as you want, meaning the amount of actual storage you can buy for yourself us is INFINITE.

Ah, external hard drives… now THAT’S something to be thankful for!

  1. I love it! I randomly picked one of your posts today, and found this one just lifted my spirits tremendously, reminding me of something I truly am grateful for. I keep mine hidden under the desk, and it’s so easy to forget about them. Thanks for a happy reminder!! (-:
