#0066: Foods That Put You to Sleep

After a long day of activities, nothing feels better than going home and getting some sleep.  You know what does NOT feel good, though? Being tired, yet somehow unable to actually get yourself to sleep.

Oh sure, you COULD take a sleeping pill, but who knows what the effects of that will be? Next thing you know, you wake up to find that the pill made you go out and kill 5 people, and now you’re running around in your underwear like a lunatic screaming, “I’m SO EXCITED! I’m SO EXCITED! I’m so… I’m so… oh my gosh, Zach, I’ve killed people!” (Gotta love the “Saved by the Bell” reference…)

The better solution? Eating foods that will help put you to sleep!

In case you haven’t noticed, there are certain foods you can eat where, after you’ve consumed them, will make you feel sleepy.  According to Reader’s Digest, any foods that cause a rise in blood sugar – especially those high in carbohydrates – will cause the body to become tired quickly.  Just about any type of meat or bread-influenced items will do the trick, especially when combined together.  Examples include:

  • Hamburgers
  • Hot Dogs
  • Steak
  • Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
  • Any kind of meat sub sandwich
  • Pasta (yes, this qualifies as a bread product)
  • Burritos (that’s bread, meat AND beans – oh boy!)
  • Graham Crackers
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Watermelon
  • Bagels
  • Chinese Food

Once you get a sizable portion of these foods into your system, all you have to do is lay back and wait for their effects to take place on your body, then BAM! You’ll be in dream land, and won’t have to worry about becoming a killer zombie off some sleeping pills!

Ah, foods that put you to sleep… now THAT’S something to be thankful for!
